God of War has recently become the highest ever rated exclusive with a rating of 94 from Metacritic. Yes, we know GTA 5 had a rating of 97, but it wasn’t an exclusive to remind you. But God of War’s success is not only limited it to the ratings and critics but in sales as well. You heard that right, Sony recently announced that God of War has become the fastest selling exclusive ever with a sale of more than 3.1 million copies in just first 3 days of its release.
It broke the previous records of “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” which has a record of having 2.7 million sales in its first week. “The Last of Us” (3.4 million units worldwide in the first three weeks of its release) and “Horizon Zero Dawn” which had a figure of 2.6 million in two weeks. It will be a tough job for Sony to make a new record very soon after this masterpiece. It’s been almost two weeks since the first day of God of War’s release, which means the number might have gone even higher than that.
Santa Monica Studio Head Shannon Studstill shared her thankful feelings on this occasion:
“I would like to personally thank the millions of fans around the world who decided to embark on Kratos’ latest adventure with us. Your support is truly inspiring, and it’s a reason why we push ourselves every day to go beyond the boundaries of play. I’d also like to thank our Creative Director, Cory Barlog, and Director of Product Development, Yumi Yang and our entire amazing team at Santa Monica Studio. The belief in the game’s vision and the passion for storytelling across the team is undeniable. We look forward to hearing more about how fans are creating new memories of their favorite God of War gameplay moments that will be remembered for a long time.”
There are a lot of reasons for the record-breaking figures of God of War. It’s addictive hack and slash gameplay is considered to be one of the best. The intensive in-between bare hand combat gives more of a reality-based combat feeling to the player. The story and most importantly, the environment and gameplay keeps the eyes of the players glued to the screen the whole time. After reading so many good reviews and ratings, even the Director Cory Barlog came to tears.
