VERDICT:The X470 Aorus Gaming 7 Wifi is a great choice for the hardcore enthusiasts, it has all the features that one could ask for, the motherboard's build quality is very good and it has good out of the box performance while coming with all the latest security measures to ensure safety of the user's beloved motherboard. However it is not a motherboard that everyone can afford and its bios settings were not as easy as they should have been, the primary reason would be the lack of instructions given. But still it is one of the best motherboards out there and it also performs like a beast so the user does get what he pays for.
Whenever it comes to computer hardware we just cannot leave Gigabyte out of the discussion. Gigabyte is a Taiwanese manufacturer of computer hardware. Their main product line up consists of motherboards but they also manufacture graphics cards and what not. Surprisingly today we’ll be taking a look at their top of the line motherboard which is built for the AMD Ryzen platform.
As AMD will be celebrating their 50th anniversary on May 1st this year, to celebrate this wonderful occasion even more and to honor AMD, Gigabyte announced the launch of their x470 Aorus Gaming Wifi-50. As the motherboard is for the special occasion so it comes in with the AMD logo and all the golden lettering.
Design and Functionality
The Gigabyte x470 Aorus Gaming is a high-end premium motherboard, this motherboard is specifically targeted for the enthusiasts looking to get the most out of their AMD Ryzen processors. As it is a top of the line motherboard, it’s overclocking abilities cannot be doubted and overclocking is pretty easy on this motherboard. Gigabyte x470 Aorus Gaming 7 is still the flagship AM4 motherboard by Gigabyte. All the users who have used this motherboard have been fairly satisfied with it and in the end, what happened was the motherboard giving a beautiful experience to the user and leaving the user in awe. Even though it’s still a bit pricy but when it comes to the experience of the user, it’s worth the money. But by no means can it be called a Motherboard that falls into the “Budget” criteria.
Opening up the box we get a case badge sticker, a G connector, M.2 mounting screws, cable ties, Sli bridge in case if one is aiming to squeeze the power out of their graphics cards and hook them up in Sli, Wifi antenna, some sata cables, temperature cables, LED cable and RGB cable. Along with all this, we get the usual guides that come with every motherboard and the driver CD and some stickers. All of these things put a side then we obviously have our sleek looking motherboard itself which is so aesthetically pleasing to look at. The Aorus logo and all the orange lighting go perfectly well with each other. To highlight the specialty of the motherboard. Gigabyte has put LED accent overlay on the side of the Motherboard that is interchangeable. The LED accent is right below the 24-Pin Atx 12 Volt connector. The color of the Led can be changed by the user through “Gigabyte Fusion RGB” software that comes with the motherboard. There is also support for LED strip that can be connected to the board with the help of RGB and LED headers in the motherboard.
The Gigabyte x470 Aorus Gaming 7 has the x470 chipset and thus it supports all the 1st and 2nd generation of AMD Ryzen processors, provided that the latest firmware is installed. The Gigabyte X470 Aorus Gaming 7 has the fin rays heatsink installed on it which is the type of heatsink that is usually found on the Graphics Cards. This particular design gives the heatsink much more are and thus it helps in cooling. This heatsink is many times better than the conventional heatsink in terms of heat dissipation. The heatsink is connected directly to the CPU socket via direct touch heat pipes. The heatsink has orange color highlighted all around it which matches the Aorus logo and the color scheme all around the motherboard. This is a very beefy power delivery heatsink which was previously seen in the
Asus Maximus Power SE.
The other important feature that this motherboard has is the faster memory, The Gigabyte x470 Aorus supports very fast DDR4 memory ranging up to 3600MHz, while the maximum RAM capacity is 64 gigs. The DIMM slots are equipped with RGB as well so you won’t have to worry about the looks of your RAM. You can perfectly sync your desired theme color with the color of the RAM. The Gigabyte X470 Aorus also supports ECC ( error correcting code) Memory.
The rear part of the Motherboard has a built-in i/o base plate. On the rear, we have the power button which is not normally found on the Rear part of the motherboard and also we find the clear CMOS button right next to the power button. Both of these buttons can be very helpful in the troubleshooting. We can also find two Wifi connectors where we can plug in our antenna. This will give the user super fast speeds when using Wifi. Then we find five 3.5mm HD audio jack ports. We also get 2 USB 3.0 DAC UP ports which can be used for the power-hungry peripherals. Then we have 4 USB 3.1 connectors. One USB 3.1 type C connector and a USB type-A connector too. Alongside that, we get 2 USB 2.0 ports and one Intel GbE LAN port.
The bios itself feels very similar to the previous Bios found in the older Gigabyte motherboards, but the problem with this Motherboard is that the settings aren’t quite as simple as they used to be in the previous Gigabyte models.
Tweaking with the bios settings can be a bit of pain and you manually have to search your way around the Motherboard’s BIOS as the guide given is not very clear on the instructions. This isn’t much of a deal if you’re familiar with overclocking and have done on different motherboards however if you’re a beginner then you will need some time to learn your way around the BIOS.
The build quality and the overall features of Gigabyte x470 Aorus Gaming 7-50 are great. But the question is does the motherboard perform like a flagship motherboard is supposed to? For that purpose, we tested our motherboard using benchmarks. (All the tests were done using Ryzen 7 2700x).
In 3DMark Firestrike(1080p) our Aorus x470 Gaming 7 Wifi managed to get an overall score of 20889 just being a little behind the Asus F Gaming which managed to get the score of 21280.
In Unigine Superposition 1080p Extreme our motherboard managed to get an overall score of 5531.
Lastly on PCMark 10 Express the Aorus X470 Gaming 7 managed to get a score of 5258. Overall our Gigabyte x470 Gaming 7 stood up where it should have and it performed quite well.
The motherboard (Gigabyte X470 Aorus Gaming 7 Wifi-50) as a whole is a great choice for pc enthusiasts, the build quality is great and the security measures that come with this motherboard and top of the line. Gigabyte has observed the needs of the hardcore gamers and has tried to give it all in this one motherboard. The performance of the motherboard is also very good.
The price of this motherboard is a little high and thus not everyone can afford it, but even then you are getting what you are paying for. The only major downside of this motherboard was it’s BIOS which is a little tricky and learning your way around the motherboard’s BIOS can be a little tricky as it doesn’t have a proper guide and the provided guide shows very little details. Aside from that, the motherboard is a beast in itself and it is definitely recommended if you can be a little patient with its BIOS.
