How To Remove ividi From My Mac OS

ividi is a browser hijacker which installs itself when you visit websites, it basically is designed to trick you into installing it. It is classed as a PUP, potentially unwanted program (Browser Hijacker) which hijacks your browser and redirects you to the ividi page. It can be very annoying as it gets itself in your way when browsing websites or trying to search something on the internet.

ividi Removal Instructions:

1. Go to the Safari Menu

2. Select Preferences

3. Select Extensions

And remove any/all unwanted extensions. Safari by default does not includes any extensions so anything you find installed in the Extensions section is a third party extension.

Next, Check and Remove all Third-Party add-ons manually

1. Open Finder

2. Click Go -> Go To Folder And provide the path to each one  of the folders one by one

/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
/Library/Input Methods/
/Library/InputManagers/
/Library/ScriptingAdditions
~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
~/Library/Input Methods/
~/Library/InputManagers/
~/Library/ScriptingAdditions

Please note that while you remove files from the above locations, do not trash them instead put them in a new folder so you can restore it if needed, and trash them only once everything starts to work properly.

Some files here, are needed by programs to run properly and if they are deleted then you will end up re-installing your OS. Ensure, that the following files are not removed.

/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Default Browser.plugin
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/iPhotoPhotocast.plugin
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/nsIQTScriptablePlugin.xpt
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Quartz Composer.webplugin
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.plugin
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.webplugin (Mac OS X v10.5.x only)
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/VerifiedDownloadPlugin.plugin (Mac OS X v10.5.x only)

As per Apple’s support, if the issue is not resolved after you delete the files then you should immediately put them back.

If you are not using Safari, and the ividi has hijacked one of your other browsers then check the installed Extensions/Plugins for those browsers.
