Gears 5, the upcoming installment in the gore-filled third person shooter series, launches on September 10th. Ahead of its release, the game’s developers are holding a technical test that will allow players to experience versus mode. A new trailer showcases the carnage that is Gears 5 versus, check it out:
Gears 5’s technical test is coming to Windows 10 PC and Xbox One later this week. The developers describe it as a “small in-development slice” of the game’s versus mode, which is shaping up to be the meatiest versus mode of all games in the franchise.
In the versus technical test, there will be three distinct game modes playable across two brand new multiplayer maps. In addition to the classic King of the Hill mode, the test will feature an improve Escalation, and a brand new Arcade game mode. Furthermore, Gears 5 will feature a Bootcamp training arena and a Tour of Duty campaign with exclusive tester weapon skins as rewards.
A new mode designed to attract casual players, Arcade features fast-paced gameplay that is vastly different than the Gears of War we’re all familiar with.
“Arcade really is something you could jump in and have a whole variety of experiences, not just get shotgunned in the face like Gears is known for,” The Coalition’s Ryan Cleven said to Game Informer. “With Arcade, it really opens it up to a lot of different types of combat, and it’s a little bit more lighthearted than the regular Gears of War.”
From the looks of the trailer, it looks like Arcade will provide an easier, and more importantly, relaxed gameplay experience.
The Gears 5 versus tech test will be held in two phases. The first starts on July 19th at 10am PDT until July 22nd at 10am PDT, and the second on July 26th at 10am PDT until July 29th at 10am PDT. For the complete system requirements, head here. PC and Xbox One users can gain access to the tech test by subscribing to Xbox Game Pass, or by pre-ordering Gears 5 from the Microsoft Store.
