Gears 5, the highly anticipated sixth installment in the gory third-person shooter series, launched earlier this month. Xbox Game Pass subscribers were able to play the game early, while others had to wait for its official release on September 9th. While most of us are now enjoying the biggest Gears of War game, Chinese users are going through a rough ti me. After the game was pulled from sale on Steam last week, players in China were unable to launch the game, and subsequently began review bombing.
Gears 5 has been out on Steam for only a couple of days, and yet the title is already sitting at a “Mixed” review rating. The majority of the negative reviews come from Chinese users, who wrote that they are not able to play the game.
In an out of the blue announcement last week, The Coalition announced that Gears 5’s release in China has been halted due to a “specific issue”. To the dismay of thousands of Chinese gamers, the developers announced that future sales and pre-orders for the game have been suspended.
However, it seems that the issue has finally been resolved, as The Coalition’s TC Octus announced today that Gears 5 is now available in China.
“We are pleased to announce that Gears 5 is now available in Mainland China,” the notice reads. “All existing pre-purchases will be honored and added to your Steam account. Thanks for your patience.”
As for Gears 5’s review rating on Steam, expect to see a change as users delete their negative reviews. Most of the negative reviews on the game are from players who were unable to even enter the game. Overall, the game is one of the best installments in the franchise. Despite a rocky launch, players have only good things to say about Gears 5.
Gears 5 is available now on PC via Steam and Microsoft Store.
