Game Awards is the most significant end of the year event of the gaming industry. Creators, players, esports champions, and stars from the entertainment industry gather around to celebrate the art of gaming. The event pays tribute to some of the best games made throughout the year. It also includes exclusive game announcements, gameplay demos, world premiers, and musical shows. The 2018 game award event was one of the longest live-streamed events in the history of the Internet with more than 30 million views.
The 2019 Game Awards is scheduled for the coming Thursday. Medium reports that the founder of Game Awards announced a new consumer event in conjunction with Game Awards called the Game Festival. It is one of a kind event that will bring the joy of hands-on gameplay demos for fans from all over the world. In a statement, Keighley said, “Now feels like the right time to take the next step with The Game Festival, a completely digital approach to the consumer event space. Let’s face it: Not everyone can attend a physical trade show or consumer event. The Game Festival is designed from the ground-up as an event without barriers, extending the benefits of a physical event to the global gaming community that watches The Game Awards.”
With this new event, Geoff Keighley is addressing one of the biggest problems with Game Awards in general. The event allows fans to play select game demos that have been announced during the event. Keighley wants everyone to enjoy these games, and that is where the Game Festival comes in.
Steam will host the Game Festival, fans will be able to enjoy more than a dozen game demos for free on the Steam platform. These demos will only be available for 48-hours. The Game Festival will introduce a pilot program on Steam that will host all these demos.
These demos include:
- System Shock
- Moving Out
- Wooden Nickel
- Heavenly Bodies
- Acid Knife
- The Drifter
Apart from the playable game demos, Steam is also offering huge discounts on many games under their “The Game Awards Sale”. Steam will also live-stream the Game Awards in 4K; viewers of the stream will have an opportunity to win games and the Valve Index RX headset.
