Fortnite v5.40 Content Update Adds the Suppressed Assault Rifle, Drum Gun Vaulted

Following today’s minor client update, the v5.40 content update is now live. The latest weapon to be added to the Fortnite battle royale arsenal is the Suppressed Assault Rifle. Aside from the new addition, the update fixes a few bugs in Getaway LTM and also marks the deployment of “sub-region matchmaking” in Southeast Asia.

Suppressed Assault Rifle

The Suppressed Assault Rifle is capable of precise and silent rapid-fire. The weapon is available in epic and legendary variants, with each dealing 32 and 33 damage per shot, respectively. The Suppressed Assault Rifle can be found in floor loot, chests, supply drops, and vending machines.

Another weapon related change in the v5.40 content update is the removal of the Drum Gun. Added last season in the v4.5 content update, the rapid-fire submachine gun has been vaulted from battle royale.

Sub-Region Matchmaking

Moving on, v5.40 content update adds the Singapore data center for Fortnite. This new feature is part of Epic’s sub-region matchmaking campaign which they talked about in last month’s State of Development blog. With sub-region matchmaking, the developers want to launch new data centers in regions where players face bad ping and other connectivity issues. Southeast Asia is the first region to receive a data center, and Epic will continue to optimize connectivity for players who live in “underserved areas.” Fortnite’s in-game matchmaking system will not always connect you to the closest sub-region as queue times also have to be taken into account. Data center selection varies every game, and depends on numerous factors, such as time of day, playlist selected, and more. To learn more about sub-region matchmaking, read the official post on the Fortnite battle royale subreddit.

Earlier this week, the Fortnite High Stakes event went live and the Getaway limited time mode was introduced. Today’s update addresses and fixes a number of bugs that existed in Getaway. Notably, players can no longer land on the getaway van without building, and carried jewels no longer disappear from the inventory if the player is knocked out.
