Fortnite Patch 4.2 adds Burst Assault Rifles, consumable apples and network improvements

After being delayed for a day, patch 4.2 for Fortnite is now live. Epic Games posted detailed patch notes on their website today. The burst rifle finally receives some love as the update adds epic and legendary variants of the weapon.

Battle Royale

Epic and Legendary Burst Assault Rifle

Until now, the SCAR semi auto rifle was the only assault rifle available in epic and legendary quality. The blue was highest tier of quality that could be found on a Burst Assault Rifle. The new epic and legendary burst rifles can be found in floor loot, chests, supply drops and vending machines. It is fairly obvious that the weapon is based off the FAMAS, a popular bullpup rifle found in various games like CS:GO and Call of Duty. The Burst Assault Rifle works just like the regular one and does 32 damage for Epic, and 33 damage for the Legendary quality.

Consumable Apples

Apples have been scattered across the map of Fortnite Battle Royale that restore 5 health when consumed. They can restore up to a maximum of 100 health and can be found around specific trees located throughout the map.

Weapon Changes

The suppressed submachine gun has been considered a weak weapon in all aspects. Patch 4.2 increased the overall damage of all variants of the suppressed SMG by three points. The damage fall-off range as well as the accuracy reset speed have been increased. The changes will hopefully make the suppressed submachine gun a viable option.

The spike trap had it’s damage reduced to 75 from 125 and the reset time to 5 seconds.

Remote explosives received a buff in terms of throw distance and explosion radius. Players will now be able to throw explosives in succession faster and detonation time between sequential explosions have been reduced.

Save The World

Perk Recombobulator

The Perk Recombobulator is now available in Save the World. Epic Games explains its working in detail over on their website.

Quad Launcher

The Quad Launcher, currently available in Save the World Weekly Event Store, holds four incendiary rockets that leave balls of fire after the explosion.

Performance optimizations

Server tick rate has been increased to 30 updates per second and network bandwidth has been increased slightly. There should now be less FPS drops and hitches caused by building. The overall performance of the game has seen a significant improvement.
