Fix: iTunes Could Not Connect to the iPhone/iPad or iPod Touch because it is locked with a passcode

Many iFolks cannot sync their iDevices with iTunes because getting this error even if they DO NOT have passcodes on their devices.

iTunes could not connect to the iPhone “User’s iPhone” because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.”

This message usually shows up when you connect the iDevice to a computer (PC or Mac), that is NOT the one you are usually syncing with. This may happen on all iDevices (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) and all iOS versions. If you are experiencing this error on your Mac or PC, check the following fixes.

Before performing the fix, make sure you update iTunes to the latest version.

Fix: Remove Old iDevices from iTunes

In most of the cases, the reason for this error is located in the iTunes app. It stores data for up to 5 synced devices in your account. If you have more than 5 devices in your Devices section in iTunes you are reaching the limit. Erase the ones you don’t use. Here is how to do that.

  1. Launch iTunes on your computer (PC or Mac).
  2. Click Account in the menu bar.
  3. From the drop-down menu select View My Account.
  4. Now, enter your Apple ID Password (if required).
  5. Under the iTunes in the Cloud section, click on Manage Devices.
  6. Now, remove any old device.
  7. After you finish with this, restart iTunes and try connecting your iDevice.

If this doesn’t work, you can try restoring your device from Recovery Mode. However, keep in mind that performing that will delete all the data from your iDevice.
