When we talk about flagship killers, phones like OnePlus and Poco come to mind, but we tend to forget about Asus. They had a very strong entry with the Zenfone 5z last year which delivered terrific value. This year we are due another launch from Asus.
Asus has teased the Zenfone 6 on their twitter handle and like any flagship, it has a Snapdragon 855. What’s interesting here is the presence of a headphone jack. Asus has always tried to position its flagship Zenfone phones to compete directly with the OnePlus phones, so the presence of a headphone jack might give them a some advantage. Gadgets.NDTV also got confirmation of a few key specs and they stated in an article “Separately, an Asus executive has tipped that presence of a dual camera setup, which will house 48-megapixel and 13-megapixel sensors, and a 5,000mAh battery on the ZenFone 6.” The triple slots on the sim tray also give us confirmation of microSD card support, which has been consistently missing in OnePlus phones.

We also got some live pictures from twitter user @Sudhanshu1414, who is a very reliable source. The biggest takeaway here is the all screen display without any notches. A lot of upcoming flagships have all screen displays but the implementation differs, like in the case of OnePlus we will see a pop-up camera. Here we see the sliding mechanism in use, which was also used in the Mi Mix 3. There’s no under-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, Asus is going with the reliable capacitive unit. The grill on the slider might indicate a stereo speaker setup, but we will have to wait for the launch event for confirmation.
Zenfone 6’s launch event is on 16th May which is two days after OnePlus’s launch event for the OnePlus 7 and the 7 Pro. Pricing details aren’t known yet but expect it to be in the same ballpark as the OnePlus 7.
