Facebook Brings Virtual Birthday Gifts: Users Can Now Send Brand Gift Cards to Their Friends & Family

Facebook started off as a platform focused at tidbits quite interesting. At the time, things like relationship status and about set it aside from the competition. Over the next decade or so, the website evolved into something quite interesting. Making it the once source of all updates, from photos and even tagging people and locations, Facebook has it all now. In terms of the calendar event, Facebook has had my back for quite a while now. Always prompting me to wish people on their birthdays, Facebook makes it quite convenient for everyone. This whole process, while it seems not so intuitive, has grown a lot. According to an article by SocialBarrel, Facebook has taken its wishing game to another level.
Over the years, Facebook wishes have taken new heights. From the option to directly type generic messages on a friend’s timeline, to having share birthday cards, pre-designed by Facebook. Later on, they introduced friendship videos that inculcated some moments shared by both parties, being shared. This personalised touch, these collages prove to be quite the personalised touch. Now, according to a tweet by Matt Navarra, Facebook allows users to send gift cards to people on their birthdays.

That’s right, Facebook now prompts users to send in Gift cards to their friends and family on their birthdays. For now, there are a couple of cards supported, such as by Sephora or Uber but it is believed that in the future more will join the club. This feature is quite primitive at the moment. It is still unknown which places are supporting the gift cards. While yes, there are some brands that operate on a global scale, Facebook may add customised ones for a more globalised approach. To put things in perspective, for a place which doesn’t have Sephora or Uber, the gift cards would be kind of redundant.
Anyway, this is the feature as it is. We’ll have to wait for a while to actually see how Facebook works on it to make it more personalised.
