We wanted a new Essential Phone and it seems that Andy Rubin and Co. are going to make that happen. Previously we heard that the next project for the company would be a smart speaker rather than the next Essential Phone. But now it seems that the speaker idea is on hold.
The next Essential Phone will be powered by AI and it will not be like other smartphones that we have on the market right now. According to reports from Bloomberg, the Essential Phone will have a smaller screen and will be smart enough to respond to emails, book appointments and send texts on its own.
The users will be able to interact with the phone using voice recognition. This could be something similar to Google Duplex but for the entire phone. The concept is very interesting indeed. This is not something new for Andy Rubin as he has been working in this direction for some time now.
He once touched on the matter and talked about how he wanted the smartphone to be smart enough to do things on its own without people having to touch it. The following is what he had to say in this regard:
“If I can get to the point where your phone is a virtual version of you, you can be off enjoying your life, having that dinner, without touching your phone, and you can trust your phone to do things on your behalf, I think I can solve part of the addictive behavior.”
This is very interesting indeed and I think that if the next Essential Phone is able to pull this off it would be the go-to device. I think that this technology is possible but not right now. We do not have a release window for the next Essential Phone and I would not be surprised if it does not come out this year, or even the next.
There is still a lot that we do not know about the upcoming Essential Phone and we do not even know how far along the company is when it comes to development. We will keep you updated regarding the matter so stay tuned for more information regarding the upcoming Essential Phone. This was originally reported by DroidLife, you can read their article here.
