Epic’s Free Games Weekly Streak is still Going Strong, Metro Last Light Redux up for grabs

Epic Games Store was that one guilty secret that everyone had but no one admitted. It tried to bring the ‘Game Console’ practices to the PC market which was not welcomed by the community. It tried to force its way into our desktops by giving away free games every week. It seems the strategy worked for Epic Games, as the store quickly found its place on our PCs. Around 160 million PC users had downloaded the Store since launch by the end of 2020.

Industry insiders were of the opinion that the ‘Free Games’ strategy was just a marketing stunt and would not last. However, it has been more than two years since the launch of the new store and Epic Games Store has mostly come through on its promise. The store has also given away the most demanded AAA titles such as the Arkham Trilogy and GTA V up till now. According to the stats released by the store, Epic Store users claimed 749 million free games in 2020.

Epic also promised that the store will keep on giving away games in 2021 too, and the first major free title is now available. Metro Last Light Redux is available for anyone on the Epic Store till February 11th. It is the second game in the Metro trilogy and follows the post-apocalyptic Moscow in the year 2034. It follows the journey of the protagonist Artyom who must face threats from both outside and within.

It should be noted that it is the remastered version of the game, and Epic had already given away the remastered version of Metro 2033 earlier. Lastly, the Gold Edition of the final chapter in the Trilogy is also available on sale at the store.
