Epic Games, developer of popular battle royale game Fortnite, is encouraging players to protect their account by enabling two-factor authentication. The developers are offering players who take the security measure a reward in the form of an in-game dance emote called Boogie Down.
“Your account security is our top priority!” says Epic in a blog post. Here’s the Boogie Down emote in action:
If you’re wondering how to activate two-factor authentication, here is an easy to follow guide. First of all, you’re going to need some type of authenticator app installed on your phone. The most common one is Google Authenticator, but Lastpass and Microsoft Authenticator will also work. If you don’t have a smartphone which can install any of the supported apps, you may use an alternative e-mail authentication method, although it is not as convenient.
Start by logging into your Epic Games account and click the Password & Security tab. Scroll down until you see the two-factor authentication menu, and select either the e-mail or app authentication method. After completing the setup, two-factor authentication will be enabled and your Epic Games account will be much more secure. Signing in to Epic Games for the first time after enabling this feature will prompt you for a passcode from your authentication method. A passcode will also be needed if it has been over 30 days since you last signed in, or you have recently cleared your browser cookies.
With two-factor authentication, any unusual activity detected on your account will need to be confirmed via your authentication method before being set in stone. Even a login from another computer will prompt a verification code that only you, the owner of the account, should have access to. While many consider this feature annoying and irrelevant, it is a very important step in keeping your account safe from hackers.
After completing all the steps and successfully enabling the authenticator, the Boogie Down emote will be added to your Fortnite account for free.
