Dying Light 2, the sequel to Techland’s zombie parkour game, will launch in spring of 2020. The announcement was made earlier today during E3, where a new trailer was also shared, have a look:
Dying Light 2
Set fifteen years after the events of the first game, Dying Light 2 takes place in The City. The new trailer focuses on the game’s story and reveals a lot about our main character, Aiden Caldwell. Similar to the first game’s protagonist, Aiden is infected, but his “high-flying parkour skills and brutal combat ability make him a valuable asset in this crumbling metropolis”.
Judging by the trailer, Dying Light 2’s humans will be just as troublesome as the zombies. While the remaining survivors fight among each other, Aiden refuses to give in. According to Techland, the choices made by the player will be “impactful” and will “shape the world as they play”.
There’s a big emphasis on choices, and each one will affect the turnout of a specific playthrough. According to the game’s producer Kornel Jaskula, Dying Light 2 features so many different possibilities that players will need multiple playthroughs to experience them all.
“It’s almost like we are creating several games worth of content right now,” says Jaskula. “We are designing the game with the foundation that some of the players will miss content and we are okay with that. Thanks to the variety of stories, missions, content, and assets, we believe that it will make players want to play the game again and again, or try to play with other players in co-op to see their worlds.”
Although the first Dying Light didn’t have a very lengthy story, the core gameplay was more than enough to keep me hooked. From the looks of things, it seems that the sequel will feature even more parkour and unique ways to kill zombies.
Dying Light 2 releases for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC in spring 2020.
