YouTube Gaming Veteran “videogamedunkey” Launches His Own Publishing Company

Jason Gastrow, better known as “Videogamedunkey” or “Dunkey,” has revealed that he will create a game publishing company named Bigmode.
In an introduction video, Jason said that he was “sick of watching from the sidelines” and hoped to utilize his influence and expertise in video game criticism to assist in commercializing potential independent games. Throughout this process, Dunkey underlines that he won’t do anything to tarnish his image by being open and honest about his feelings about video games. Dunkey and Leah actively encourage game developers to apply, whether far down the production road or in the planning phases, since they are interested in assisting developers with new ideas and enthusiasm for their games.
I’ve been on YouTube for 11 years now, and one of the core themes of my channel has always been to slam dunk soulless cash grabs into the garbage can and lift up and praise the truly inspired works of art in this medium.
For years and years and years, I have always sought out the best Indie games out there and have tried to do them justice, putting millions of eyes on the games that actually deserve attention.”
Even though Dunkey has a lengthy history of supporting independent games, he also reviews high-end AAA games. His channel has featured several recent indie gaming successes, including Celeste, Untitled Goose Game, Undertale, and Cuphead. He has praised and helped draw notice to these games on his channel by talking about them, and now his firm will go on and grow that effort.
I want Bigmode to act as my seal of approval, which is something that I do not apply lightly. I am not looking for creative control over your games, but I want to be involved. I’m sick of sitting on the sidelines waiting for great games to appear. Now I want to get in there and help make it happen.”
People who like Dunkey’s videos may be worried about what will happen to his regular material in the future. Bigmode Games will, nevertheless, be a “harmonious continuation” of Dunkey’s channel and movies, he has said. The material that fans have grown to love is probably not going away, even if it’s probable that Dunkey’s primary channel will be used to advertise some of the titles Bigmode Games ultimately buys the publishing rights to.
Following Bigmode’s announcement, numerous people expressed skepticism and doubted Dunkey’s qualifications to serve as the publisher of video games. The declaration itself was even called into doubt by others.
Danny O’Dwyer, the founder of video game documentary production company Noclip, commented:
We gotta drop the naive shtick that having opinions on games is a qualification for understanding just about anything about development. It also raises many ethics questions but I’ll give em the benefit of the doubt for now. I’ll just say I don’t know many indies who want an involved publisher with no experience or industry rep.”
Dunkey has made the official Bigmode website and its associated social media platforms accessible. Individual creators, teams, and those with finished games are encouraged to contact the firm. Bigmode won’t publish any games using NFTs, blockchain, or cryptocurrency, which looks like a huge crowd-pleaser. Regardless of the policies Bigmode has implemented, it is encouraging to see Jason come up and support independent game creators, since this will promote the creation of high quality games.
