Microsoft has pushed an update KB3035583 to all eligible Windows users with free upgrade option to Windows 10. This appears in the task bar at the bottom. As i understand, not many of you are happy with this and are not interested in upgrading to Windows 10. So in this guide, there are two methods, one is to do a clean uninstall of the update and the second one is to add a registry key.
Uninstalling and blocking the update is a cleaner approach if you don’t intend to use Windows 10 in the future, but if you do intend to use then jump to the registry method below. Make sure you back up your registry settings before proceeding.

So here’s how to Disable & Remove Windows 10 icon
First, go to Control Panel and open “Uninstall a Program”. From the left pane, select “View Installed Updates” and locate this update KB3035583 double click on it and uninstall it. This will require a restart, so after the computer has restarted, we will have this update removed.
Next, we need to rename the GWX.EXE File from:
Open Windows Explorer by Holding Windows key and Pressing E or Hold Windows Key and Press R and browse to
From here, rename GWX.EXE to GWX1. You may need to take the owner ship before it allows you access to modify the file.
Next, run Autoruns. Search for the GWX process then ncheck/disable the GWX process.
Registry Method for Disabling Get Windows 10 Notifications
Hold Windows Key and Press R. Type regedit in the run dialog and click OK. Browse to the following path
Right Click Windows and create a new key called GWX, In the left pane, right click and create a new DWORD 32 BIT Value, and name it as DisableGwx, double click it and set value to 1.
