Finally! We get to see the gameplay demo of Cyberpunk 2077 and boy was it good! This gameplay was shown to press on a previous event, but everyone had to sign a NDA so no gameplay was leaked out.
The demo started with user customisation, you can play as either male or female. There is a deep customisation system, so you can edit how your character looks.
There is a attribute system where you will be able to spend points depending on your play style.
Then we proceed to the first mission which starts on a shady apartment, where V the protagonists objective is to retrieve a missing lady and safely evacuate her.
This is where we get our first brief look at combat mechanics, you will be able to shoot through certain walls and also get shot through them. There’s also a fine tuned ricochet mechanism, where bullets will boumbo off certain objects to hit targets.
After completing the mission V proceeds to her apartment, there is also this armoury there. Although there was only a handgun placed in the demo, in the full release players will definitely be able to deck it out.
This is where we have our first look at the open world of “Night City”, the demo describes it as a dystopian city where crime is rampant. The gameplay demo shows thick crowds, definitely looks very realistic. A lot of time has been spent by the developers of CD Projeckt Red, just perfecting the atmosphere.
The demo shows the body modifications that can be undergone to enhance fighting capabilities and much more. These procedures are conducted by Ripper Docs. There are also illegal military grade modifications acquired from the black market, but obviously at a much higher price. The game uses a currency called Eddy, which is a slang for Euro Dollar.
We get two optic modifications in the demo, one of them helps V zoom many times on a target. The other one is for scanning the game world for useful information.
Meanwhile, on V’s second mission, the demo shows off driving mechanics. The car shown in the demo is actually a sports car. There is a random encounter while driving around the city, where there’s a group of scavengers shooting at the car, which turns into a high velocity shoot-out.
Players will be able to drive cars from both inside the cabin view or 3rd person. The demo shows off a lot of customised guns, which come with various mods which affect the guns stats. This means players will be able to deeply customise a weapon to suit their play style.
Every action will have a deep consequence in the game, Cyberpunk 2077 takes it a step further from what we saw in Witcher 3. Players will be able to complete a mission in various ways, some ways might require certain points in a ability branch, something similar to Dues Ex’s system. Looking at the Cyberpunk 2077 demo, players who have played the previous Dues Ex games will be able to find a lot of parallels. It almost seems that Cyberpunk 2077 draws a lot from Dues Ex and improves it massively on every aspect.
The demo was absolutely mind blowing, there was a lot depth in the gameplay and the atmosphere was very cohesive. We don’t have a release date yet, but Cyberpunk 2077 won’t have a release before late 2019.
