CDPR Confirms Phantom Liberty to be their Most Enormous Expansion To Date

In a recent interview with a Polish media outlet, Parkiet, Marek Bugdoł from CD Projekt Red‘s Investor Relations department reveals that the development of the upcoming expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 is going according to the plan they are really happy with the current state of Phantom Liberty (expansion title).

Marek further reveals that Phantom Liberty will be CDPR’s most enormous expansion to date.

He adds that this will be the biggest addition in the studio’s history in terms of budget.

We hope that the new adventures and characters will attract those who are already familiar with Cyberpunk and also encourage many new players to start playing Night City.”

He was also asked about the release date and marketing campaign of Phantom Liberty, but he refused to reveal any information about that.

We do not provide this information.”

Cyberpunk 2077 has seen a massive resurgence following the release of the acclaimed anime series Cyberpunk Edgerunners based on the game. Other than that, the continuous dedication of developers to fixing the bugs and technical issues that made the game a disaster at launch helped change the players’ perception towards Cyberpunk 2077. And the TV show just worked as a booster to attract players back to experience the life of Night City again.

In April 2022, CD Projekt Red teased a new expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, and on September 6, 2022, it was confirmed that the new DLC Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty will be the only expansion for the game. It was also confirmed that it would be next-gen exclusive (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC), leaving Xbox One and PlayStation 4 behind with Update 1.6 as the last major update on the respective last-gen platforms.

While the release date (only a 2023 release window is confirmed) and in-depth synopsis of Phantom Liberty are still unknown, CDPR has confirmed that the story will take place in an all-new district in the Night City that was not explorable previously.

Keanu Reeves‘s Johnny Silverhand will also be making a comeback, and a new line of characters will be introduced. All the major overhauls and upgrades suggest that it will be a paid DLC, and CDPR has also not stated otherwise. However, the exact pricing of the expansion is yet to be revealed.

CD Projekt Red released a new teaser for Phantom Liberty at The Game Awards 2022. The teaser revealed gameplay in the new district of Night City, the location where the DLC’s detective stories will take place.

New characters were also introduced, including Solomon Reed, an FIA agent for the New States of America, who will assist players in their espionage and survival journey. Additionally, Johnny Silverhand, voiced by Keanu Reeves, was also featured in the teaser. Another new character, Ash, voiced by Sasha Grey, was also introduced, who will be a part of Night City’s Phantom Liberty.

Phantom Liberty is set to release for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC sometime in 2023.

We hope that CD Projekt Red fulfills the fans’ expectations with Phantom Liberty and that this expansion is worth giving the community back for the support they have shown in recent times for Cyberpunk 2077.
