When Borderlands 3 was announced last week, developer Gearbox didn’t share much about the game’s release. A leaked Twitter advert suggested that the game is launching on September 13th. As it turns out, the developers have confirmed that to be the actual release date. Additionally, the game will be an Epic Store exclusive for six months, after which it will land on “on additional PC digital storefronts”.
Epic Store Exclusive
Borderlands 3 is skipping Steam in favor of the Epic Games Store. The PC version of the game will exclusively be available on the controversial store until April 2020.
“The PC gaming community has been an important part of the success of the Borderlands series, and we are excited to be partnering with Epic who recognize its worldwide popularity and share in our commitment to bring ‘Borderlands 3’ to this rapidly expanding audience,” says David Ismailer, president at 2K.
As all the previous games in the series released on Steam, we can almost certainly expect to see Borderlands 3 on the platform once the exclusivity period ends.
We saw the new vault hunters in the reveal trailer, but now we have a detailed description of Borderlands 3’s playable characters.
- Moze as THE GUNNER: When Moze needs backup she Digistructs her mech – Iron Bear – for a sucker punch of additional firepower.
- Amara as THE SIREN: A confident, capable brawler with the ability to summon ethereal fists, Amara uses her Siren powers to smash her enemies.
- FL4K as the BEASTMASTER: FL4K lives for the hunt. So do the loyal beasts that follow their master’s every command. Their preferred prey? Unsuspecting bandits, those poor suckers.
- Zane as the OPERATIVE: Specializing in battlefield gadgetry, Zane is extremely proficient at slipping into combat, creating chaos, and sneaking back out as if he were never there.
The new vault hunters will be dropped in brand new environments like deserts, war-torn cityscapes, deadly bayous, and more.
Borderlands 3 will get a season pass filled with all kinds of cosmetics. There are three different purchasing options starting with the standard edition for $60. Although this version only includes the game, pre-ordering will net you the “gold weapon skins pack”. The pricier Deluxe and Super Deluxe editions cost $80 and $100, respectively.
Both include three cosmetic packs, one weapon pack, and XP and loot drop boost mods. Furthermore, the Super Deluxe edition comes with the Season Pass, which includes four campaign DLC packs and an exclusive weapon skin, trinket, and grenade mod. The campaign DLC packs feature “new stories, missions and challenges”.
Borderlands 3 is available for pre-order on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The game will release on all platforms on September 13th.
