Best Smartwatches For Women To Buy In 2019

Wearable tech has garnered a lot of attention from our generation. We have seen a lot of wild ideas ranging from actual rings that can be used as fitness trackers, to spectacles that can take photos (courtesy of snapchat). Out of all of these products, the most popular and arguably the most practical wearable we’ve seen so far are smartwatches.

The reason smartwatches are admired globally is that of their ease of use and handy features. You can get quick alerts or notifications, track your fitness activities and even use voice assistants. All of these features can help in a lot of day to day tasks.

Sadly, most smartwatches are infamous for their awfully generic design. Steel frames and black bands are a common theme everywhere. This is an even bigger issue for women as a lot of watches are too large and seem to be designed with men in mind. But when these smartwatches are made with women in mind, they often don’t deliver on the functions you’d expect from a smartwatch. That’s why this guide was created to not only help you in finding a fashionable and good looking smartwatch, but also one which actually takes advantages of all modern features smartwatches should possess.

Benefits Of A Smartwatch

Smartwatches can be absolutely loaded with features. Let’s talk about how you can take advantage of those handy attributes and utilize them in your day to day life.

First off is notifications. There are many scenarios when you are in a hurry that you just can’t pull out your phone right away. Another situation is maybe you are in an important meeting with someone and it would be rude to pull out your phone. That’s where smartwatches come in. You can have a quick glance at your notifications, whether it be text messages, emails or voice messages. We’ve also read many posts about mothers who have baby cameras set up in their kids’ bedrooms who can take advantage of the quick alerts on their smartwatches (assuming the app has smartwatch support of course).

A huge reason as to why people buy smartwatches is actually because of fitness. A ton of smartwatches come preloaded with fitness orientated features. GPS, water resistance, heart rate monitors and fitness alerts all come together to make a great fitness tracker in the form of a wristwatch. Pair that with great integration of fitness apps and notifications to alert you of your daily fitness goals and a smartwatch can really help you get off the couch.

There a ton of other situations when smartwatches can come in handy. Maybe you’re cycling where pulling out your phone isn’t possible. In that case, you can use a smartwatch for GPS purposes. Other handy features include replying quickly to text messages in a short manner. There are hundreds of other scenarios where smartwatches can be useful.

Things To Look Out For When Buying A Smartwatch

Smartwatches can be filled to the brim with a ton of handy features. With a lot of the brands promising the same things, here are some of the most important aspects you should look out for whenever buying a smartwatch.

Compatibility

A lot of smartwatches serve as companions to your smartphone. Make sure you are buying a watch that supports interaction with your phone. A lot of android wear watches actually do work with iPhones (with some limitations) but unsurprisingly, Apple watches only work with iPhones.

Battery Life

A downside to a lot of smart watches can be battery life. You don’t want another device on the list of things you have to charge every day. A lot of watches are improving on this by better optimization and giving you the option of battery saving modes.

Display

Obviously, the display is what you’ll be looking at most of the time when interacting with your smartwatch. As you will most likely be using it more outdoors, you want a watch with a crisp looking display that is preferably plenty bright.

Notifications and Alerts

Any useful smartwatch will most likely alert you of incoming calls, text messages and emails. This serves as a way to quickly glance at your notifications without pulling out your phone. This also depends on app support. A lot of smartwatches also support social media notifications from Facebook, Twitter etc.

Fitness Features

Smartwatches can serve as great fitness trackers. If that concerns you, pick a watch with a heart rate sensor, GPS and preferably some sort of water resistance.

Design

Watches have been more of a fashion piece for generations. The same stays true for smartwatches. There are many different designs out there and many smartwatches come with the option of replacing the watch bands with different materials or colors.

We’ve talked all about the benefits of a smartwatch along with all the factors to keep in mind when deciding on one. With all of that in mind let’s have a look at our list of the best smartwatches available in 2019 for women. Let’s dive right in.

The Apple watch has been the most popular wearable piece of tech, especially for Apple fans, since its debut. Apple nails it in absolutely every way with their latest Apple Watch Series 4. The Series 4 is mainly a design refresh over previous generations. Combine great design with a slew of handy features, and arguably one of the best fitness integration in any smartwatch, the Apple watch finds the top spot on our list with ease.

The best aspect of the Apple watch is its design, and customizability with that design. You can choose different casings, from space grey to rose gold and pick from different styles and colors of bands. The flexibility allows you to give your watch a personal look. The watch is slightly bigger this year but not so much that you’ll notice it on your wrist. It still fits perfectly fine for most women. This year’s design refresh slims downs the bezels which result in a bigger screen. The screen is big, bright and more than adequate for a smartwatch.

Moving onto features, Apple has filled this watch to the absolute brim. Siri is integrated almost perfectly as a voice assistant. It now has “raise to talk” feature which works most of the time and is pretty fast. You can choose from a ton of watch faces that are also customizable, so you can add weather, fitness details and the date for example. There are also a lot of health-focused features, such as fall detection and a heart-rate sensor. Both of which work well and the heart-rate sensor has actually saved a life in the past. Battery life is also good averaging at 3-4 days.

Fitness also works very well. Step tracking, calories burned and overall activity tracking is very accurate and as a fitness tracker, the Apple watch is actually on par with Fitbit’s products. Overall, for women who want a great looking watch with the most functional and handy features, look no further than the apple watch. The only complaint here is that it only works with iPhones and like a lot of Apple products, it is very expensive.

Fitbit is a name you’ve probably heard before when it comes to fitness trackers. As the company name suggests, their products excel at fitness tracking and that is the main selling point of their watches and fitness trackers. However, the new Versa smartwatch from Fitbit does all the great fitness tracker stuff that we appreciate but it’s also one of the best smartwatches out there.  Why this works so well for women is because of the smaller design, durability and actual fitness features designed for women.

At first glance, the Versa has a design similar to the Apple watch. It has the same square casing as the Apple watch but is much smaller and lightweight. The screen, unfortunately, has large bezels and is a bit small. All things considered, though it’s not disappointing in any way as the panel is bright, clear and colorful. Some people probably won’t look the square design of the casing but the good thing is that its so lightweight you won’t notice it on your wrist.

Compared to the Ionic, Fitbit’s first attempt at a smartwatch, the Versa is miles ahead in terms of practicality. The usual great fitness-related features are here. Step tracking, calories tracking, sleep tracking are a few of the most important fitness features coupled with water resistance up to 50m. The Fitbit app on your phone has a lot of profiles for different kind of workouts, and the watch displays all the results right on your wrist. What makes this watch great for women isn’t just the lightweight design, but the health-focused features specifically for women. The fitness app offers more focus on health tracking for women and has workout profiles designed with women in mind.

Other features that have been sprinkled here by Fitbit really make this a complete smartwatch. The Versa works well with a lot of different apps to give you alerts and notifications. You can reply to text messages quickly and you get alerts for your daily workouts. Battery life is also substantially better than their previous watch. The Versa is compatible with both iPhones and Android phones.

A few complaints we have are the following. Navigating through the UI can feel sluggish at times, this might be because of the low-power processor. Besides that, the Versa also lacks GPS navigation which might be a dealbreaker for some people. Apart from those two issues, the Versa is still the best Smartwatch for fitness tracking.

The Zenwatch 3 from Asus is definitely a looker. It’s one of the best design smartwatches on the market right now and the beige color is apparently adored by a lot of women. The design might not be for everyone but it does seem to suit a lot of women quite well because of its elegant frame and beige watch band. It’s not all looks although, at its core, the Zenwatch 3 is a great smartwatch with most of the features you’d expect. Unfortunately, there are a few missed opportunities here and the Zenwatch 3 does make a lot of sacrifices.

The Zenwatch 3 has a classic look to it. At first glance, it looks like a simple yet stylish wrist watch. Combine that with a lot of different elegant watch faces and the watch gives off a very luxurious look. It has a stainless steel frame with accent colors around the display. It has chronograph style buttons on the side which are there more for looks than actual usefulness. The one major issue here with the design is the proprietary straps. You can’t use other straps for Android wear watches due to the different design here. You’re stuck here with the only options given by Asus.

Despite the fact that the Zenwatch looks so good, it misses out on a lot of watches. Sure it works well when paired with your phone to give you alerts and notifications from different apps, but the lack of a heart-rate sensor, GPS and NFC are major deal breakers for a lot of people. Although the Zenwatch 3 does all the basic things well while looking good, especially for women, it sacrifices a lot of features which might be a deal breaker for some.

Still, the great display, long battery life, and excellent build quality might make it a solid buy for people not looking for a complicated smartwatch.

The Fossil Q Neely is probably the best-looking smartwatch on this list. It doesn’t just look like a regular wristwatch, it functions like one as well. This one really does go for form over function. It is termed as a hybrid smartwatch, meaning it uses a regular watch dial instead of a touchscreen. It’s a very barebones smartwatch but for the price and the gorgeous looks, it’s hard to complain.

The Fossil Q Neely is the best-designed watch on this list. Its one of the smallest, lightest and most comfortable smartwatches. It comes in either rose gold or beige finish with either black or beige watch bands. Its a really small 36mm sized case which sits perfectly on the wrist. The main appeal here is that it looks like a regular watch but can pull off a few important smartwatch features.

Because the Fossil Q Neely is more of a hybrid smartwatch, the added features here are pretty minimal. It can be paired with most social media apps but because it lacks an actual display, the watch buzzes to alert you of notifications. Another way of getting alerts is that the watch has an extra dial. You can program app notifications to any number on this dial so it will move according to the notifications. Unfortunately, this is not very practical in real life and seems gimmicky more than anything.

The Fossil Q Neely can also track steps and works fine as a fitness tracker. Mind you there is no heart-rate sensor or GPS here so it’s not meant to handle workouts. But for barebones step tracking its accurate enough. Because the watch does so little and consumes such little power, the battery life is absolutely amazing. It can last up to 6 months on a single charge. Overall, if you are looking for an elegant watch that can also work for notifications or simple step tracking, for the price, this is the best-looking hybrid on the market.

Michael Kors is a popular fashion brand that recently started making waves in the smartwatch market. Their Access smartwatch features a gorgeous design paired with a lot of great features. It runs on Android Wear 2.0 from Google. Overall, this is a very stylish watch that doesn’t give up on too many features.

This watch features a unique steel bracelet design paired with a large 44m stainless steel casing. The watch comes in gold, rose gold and silver. Silicone bands are also available in different colors. The design might be a bit loud for some but actually fits well into everyday clothing. The watch does have a fairly large footprint which might be bothersome for a few people.

Moving onto features, the Acess runway has a fairly large and bright display which works as a touchscreen. There are a few different watch faces on board. As for features, the watch works quite well for notifications and alerts. Android wear also brings “Google Fit” support for health tracking. The watch is also water resistant. Although the fitness tracking features work quite well, the design limits its use in serious sports or even running.

All in all, this is a great looking and functioning smartwatch that performs as well as you’d expect. One major dealbreaker here is actually the battery life. Its very short and can only last a day or a day and a half at best.
