Fix: android.process.acore has stopped

Although rare, the “android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly” issue is as persistent and dangerous as it could possibly be. This issue, which causes affected Android devices to constantly display the “android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly” error message no matter how many times it is dismissed, was brought to the world’s attention back in 2013.

This issue makes it almost impossible for a person to use an affected device smoothly, which is why it is imperative that this issue be fixed as soon as an Android device contracts it. While there are dozens of solutions for this problem floating around on the internet, most of them either fix the problem temporarily or don’t work at all. The following are the three methods that have proven to be successful at eliminating the ‘android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly’ error:

Method 1: Clear the cache and data for all Contacts apps.

1. Turn off the device’s sync.

12. Press ‘Force Stop‘.

13. Confirm the action.

14. Tap on “Clear Cache.

15. Tap on ‘Clear Data.’

16. Confirm the action.

17. Restart the device

18. Restore all the contacts on the device using the backup that was created earlier.

Method 2: Turn off Sync for Facebook and then delete and restore all contacts.

1. Again, back up all of the contacts stored on the affected device.

2. Go to Settings > Accounts.

3. Tap on Facebook.

4. Turn off Sync by tapping on the option and removing the checkmark beside it.

5. Delete all the contacts stored on the device. Although this can be done directly from the Contacts app, it is preferable to do so by performing steps 3-16 from Method 1 instead.

6. Restart the device.

7. Restore all of the contacts.

Method 3: Reset the device to factory settings.

1. Back up all contacts and any valuable data stored on the internal memory of the affected device.

2. Go to settings.

3. Navigate to “Backup and Reset.

4. Tap on ‘Factory Data Reset‘ or something similar.

5. Press the “Reset Device” button.

6. Follow the on-screen instructions, and then wait for the device to reset to factory defaults.

7. When the device powers on, go through the startup process, restore the backed-up contacts, restore any other backed-up data, and reinstall all the apps that were previously on the device using the Play Store. It would be foolish to even think that the “android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly” issue could survive a complete factory data reset.

Note: Use this method as a last resort only in the rare event that the first two methods fail. Resetting an Android device to factory settings not only deletes all contacts stored on the device but also erases everything from the device’s internal memory.

Method 4: Uninstalling Edge.

In some cases, users have noticed that this error arose after installing the Edge browser on their Android mobiles. Therefore, it is best to uninstall the browser if you have it installed and check if doing so resolves the issue. For uninstallation, you can long-press the app’s icon and then select ‘Uninstall’ from the list.
