Asus is a long time partner of AMD and the company is now working on the ROG Strix RX 590, according to a new rumor. Sources say that the card will release by the end of the year.
For those who don’t know, Nvidia recently did some shady business by creating issues for AMD partners like Asus. Under Nvidia’s change of policy, Asus’ relationship with the company would suffer if they released AMD cards under the popular ROG gaming brand.
Due to Nvidia’s policy, Asus was forced to create a new brand for AMD, ARZ. And while we haven’t seen any cards released under the said brand, it is still a thing. However, no cards may materials under the brand as Nvidia reportedly changed its business model after a community backlash.
Basically, Nvidia was going to cut Asus’ GPU supply short if they supported its rivals with the ROG brand. The community stood behind AMD which forced Nvidia to make changes.
Now, this new information pretty much solidifies the fact that Nvidia has indeed backed off. AMD RX 590 ROG Strix is one of the cards being released under the ROG brand.
The root of this information also shared the card model number as “ASUS Radeon RX 590 ROG STRIX GAMING (ROG-STRIX-RX590-8G-GAMING).”
No other information about the card is available at the time of this writing. But just ago, 3DMark benchmarks were leaked that showed some decent performance numbers from RX 590. The card had an overall 3DMark score of 5028.
In related news, Nvidia is reportedly gearing up to take on the RX 590 with a new GDDR5X based version of GT 1060. The new model will have a 6GB VRAM with a 192-bit memory bus.
Expect the new graphics card in the coming month or so.
