Assassin’s Creed Mirage has a Nostalgic Blue Filter which Recreates the First Game’s Essence

Ubisoft has recently unveiled a new video on their official YouTube Channel titled “Assassin’s Creed Mirage: A Return to the Roots.” The video showcases the various elements in Assassin’s Creed Mirage that have been inspired by the classic Assassin’s Creed games, which played a crucial role in shaping the franchise into one of the most iconic and beloved stealth game series of all time.

According to Creative Director Stéphane Boudon, Mirage is a “love letter to the origins of the franchise, a coming of age story with rhythm mechanics to bring the feel of the early games into the modern day.” It’s a statement that resonates with fans who have been eagerly awaiting a return to the roots of the Assassin’s Creed series.

Senior Game Designer Marco Maresca sheds light on the gameplay mechanics that have been incorporated into Assassin’s Creed Mirage, drawing from earlier Assassin’s Creed titles. Maresca emphasizes the focus on comfort and fluidity in parkour, drawing inspiration from games like the Ezio trilogy, where the emphasis was on maintaining flow and momentum with a design centered around verticality.

Many beloved elements from past games are making a comeback in Mirage, offering a sense of familiarity to long-time fans.

Maresca further elaborates on the parkour mechanics, highlighting the inclusion of features such as the corner swing, vaulting over objects, elevators for quick access to high ground, and the new addition of the pole vault, allowing players to traverse large gaps between rooftops. The animations have been carefully crafted to enhance the feeling of speed when jumping, vaulting, and freely roaming the environment.

The streets in Assassin’s Creed Mirage are narrower, denser, and filled with obstacles, providing a challenging environment to navigate. By carefully selecting the right path through the environment, players can seamlessly transition from street level to the rooftops, showcasing the agility and fastness required of any skilled assassin.

For long-standing fans of the Assassin’s Creed franchise who fell in love with the momentum, smoothness in motion, agility, and stealthiness of the earlier games, this news is undoubtedly exciting. It marks a return to the classic game mechanics and features that had become somewhat diluted in recent titles like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

To further enhance the nostalgic experience, Ubisoft has introduced a blue-grey nostalgic filter in Assassin’s Creed Mirage, reminiscent of the color style/grading of the first Assassin’s Creed game. This optional filter allows players to experience the same color palette that was present in the series’ inaugural installment.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage was initially announced during last year’s Ubisoft Forward event, generating substantial anticipation among fans. The video effectively showcases what players can expect from the game, aligning with Ubisoft’s promise of bringing the feel of the early games into the modern era.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is scheduled for release on October 12th, 2023. What are your thoughts on Ubisoft’s latest video? Let us know in the comments section below.
