ASRock Rack Launches EPC621D4I-2M Mini-ITX Motherboard for Xeon LGA-3647

ASRock is known for making high quality motherboards and their latest offering, the ASRock Rack EPC621D4I-2M is the smallest C621 chipset motherboard. When the LGA-3647 was launched, the possibility of a mini ITX form factor was little as the socket itself was so huge. But ASRock has made it possible with this scalable Xeon board.

The ASRock Rack EPC621D4I-2M is a mini ITX motherboard with the LGA-3647 socket. It supports Intel Skylake-SP and Cascade Lake-SP processors. Xeon Scalable processors with upto 205W TDP can be used on this motherboard. The size of the board is kept very small with the huge socket taking up 40% of the space.


For storage, there are 2 M.2 slots on the reverse side in addition to 5 SATA ports. There are 2 PCIe 4x for the SSDs and a PCIe 3.0 16x slot for the GPU. Other than that, it has 2 x USB 3.0, 2 x RJ45 Gigabit LAN ports and a traditional VGA port which will probably never be used.

Because of the size constraint, there are SO-DIMM slots on this motherboard. The 2 slots can be equipped with up to 128GB system memory with 2666 MHz frequency. For server cooling there are 3 PWM connectors with led indication of fan failure.

The ASRock EPC621D4I-2M is by no means a common motherboard. For most people only 5 SATA and 2 Ethernet ports won’t be enough for server grade workloads. This board is one a kind and the compromises made to keep the size small really thin down the real-word use case scenarios.
