The Arctic Alpine 12 is a passive CPU cooler for Intel LGA115x socket compatible chips. If you are not fond of fan noise then this is something worth looking into. The Arctic Alpine 12 will keep the temperature of your CPU in check without making the noise that you would get from a fan on a traditional air cooler.
Passive cooling is becoming more of a trend as more and more companies are trying to get a slice of the pie. This is very interesting work. Gaming PCs and workstations can get very loud when under load and while some people use headphones which cancel out the noise there are those that do not like the access sound and prefer the PC to be as silent as possible. If you are one of those people then you should check out the Arctic Alpine 12.
The cooler comes with MX-5 thermal paste pre-applied so all you have to do is remove the existing thermal paste from the CPU and install the Arctic Alpine 12. The TDP for the cooler is 35W which might not seem like much and you won’t be able to do overclocking, but then again this was not designed to be able to dissipate so much heat in the first place and priced at $12 this is not an enthusiast cooler.
The fins are wide enough to fit a 92mm fan if you are interested in adding one but then again that would kill the whole concept of passive and silent cooling. While passive cooling solutions are not common, if products like these keep coming out and keep proving themselves then we might see a change in taste and more people might adopt this technology.
If you are interested in passive cooling and want to give it a go then the Arctic Alpine 12 can be a way of starting off small. The product is inexpensive and won’t break the bank. If you like the results then you could move on to something even better.
