Intel Arc A380 Tested In Various APIs From the Past 23 Years, Compatibility Better Than Expected

PC Games Hardware embarked on a journey to test Intel’s Arc A380 across various titles featuring different APIs from 19992022

Intel’s Issues

Intel is notorious for optimizing their GPUs for the newer and fancier APIs. Many games still use older APIs such as DX11, DX10 and DX9 despite being dated. DX12 does provide much more headroom for additional graphical fidelity, however, at the cost of stability.

Intel has offered 3 tiers of optimization depending upon the API used:

  1. The first tier consists of the games which will run the best on Intel Arc A GPUs, over the DirectX 12 API. Some examples are Cyberpunk 2077Control and Fortnite.
  2. The second tier includes the games which will run ‘moderately’ on these GPUs, utilizing the DX12 or the Vulkan API
  3. The third and the most important tier consists of the games which are not well optimized well for Intel’s new GPUs utilizing the DX 11 API or lower. It is to be noted that the pricing of these GPUs will be based on the performance in this, third category.

The Extensive Testing

Intel released their latest driver on the 19th of August claiming to have fixed many ‘visual’ and ‘technical’ problems. The results you see below feature an older driver (17th August).

Some games need massive improvements such as Spider-Man Remastered. However, Intel’s Beta driver has ‘reportedly’ fixed all such visual and RTX-related issues. Chipzilla still has miles to go before their software is able to compete against the top dogs from the GPU division.

Release Date

These GPUs are expected to launch sometime around Q3 2022 (1 month left). Can Intel deliver its promise? Only time will tell. Until then, keep visiting our website as we will keep you up-to-date across all forms of tech news.
