We know that AMD is planning to release a lower mid-range graphics card under the new RDNA architecture. According to recent leaks, the latest graphics cards will be based on the Navi GPU, which is a cut-down version of the original die present in the RX 5700XT graphics card. However, Videocardz has spotted that a beefier version of the said graphics card is set to be featured in the new MacBook Pro from Apple. The 16-inch Macbook Pro was unveiled by Apple today, and it does contain the Radeon RX 5500M though we do not have the exact specifications of the graphics card yet.
It has been heavily rumored that AMD is working on three new graphics cards to strengthen its position in the mid-tier market. The company itself hinted on a graphics card that will blaze through every game at 1080p resolution. These graphics cards include a higher tier Radeon RX 5500XT, mid-tier RX 5500, and a mobile version called RX 5500M.
The Radeon RX 5500XT will feature full Navi 14 die, which contains a total of 24 compute units. This means we’ll be getting a total of 1536 streaming processors and 64 Rendering output units. The Radeon RX 5500 and the RX 5500M will feature the cut-down version of the Navi 14 GPU die with only 14 functioning compute units. It means these graphics cards will only feature 1408 stream processors and 22 ROPs.
The 3D mark score of the 16 inches Core i9 Macbook shows that the GPU core is running at a clock speed of 1431 MHz, and the memory clock speed is 1472 MHz. The MacBook was able to score 2781, which is higher than the scores that were leaked before. The clock frequency also does not coincide with the earlier leaks. It means the RX 5500M in the MacBook pro contains the full Navi 14 die instead of the cut down version.
Lastly, we can see that AMD is supplying the Navi 14 cores to apple at first that is the reason why the company is delaying the release date of the RX 5500 series of graphics cards. We are still waiting for the launch schedule for the graphics cards as these cards will provide much-needed competition in the lower mid-tier graphics card market.
