Spanish blog Applesfera today published a report claiming Apple will announce the second-generation AirPods on March 29. Many previous rumors had also pointed towards an early 2019 launch.
The latest rumor suggests the current AirPods will be replaced by AirPods 2 on March 29. The blog has based the claim on a screenshot from Apple’s stock management software that shows the current AirPods are set to reach the end of their life cycle on March 28.
Last month, another rumor had claimed Apple will launch the AirPods 2, AirPower, and new iPad models at an event on March 22. Apple, however, is yet to announce any plans of launching the AirPods 2 or new iPads. The Cupertino-based company is holding an event on March 25 at the Steve Jobs Theater on the Apple Park campus but reports suggest it will only focus on subscription services and not new products.
Famous Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had said a few weeks back that the new wireless AirPods would be released in the first half of 2019. According to rumors, the second-generation AirPods will come with wireless charging support as well as upgraded Bluetooth connectivity. Some rumors have even suggested the new earbuds will be capable of health monitoring and may come with a special coating for enhanced grip. Unlike the current AirPods, which are only available in white, the AirPods 2 are rumored to be available in Black and White color options.
In terms of pricing, AirPods 2 are expected to cost around $200. The original AirPods, as most of you may remember, were launched at $159 in the US. Apple is said to be working on the third-generation AirPods as well, which are tipped to feature an all-new design and may debut in 2020. Apart from a new design, the AirPods 3 are likely to come with noise-cancellation and a few other new features as well.
