Apple today confirmed that it will be holding a Special Event on March 25th at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino. The event will begin at 10:00 AM local time. The tagline of Apple’s upcoming special event is “It’s show time.”
Rumors so far have suggested the event will mainly focus on Apple’s new news subscription service as well as a new video service. While some rumors have hinted at the possibility of a few new hardware announcements as well, it does not seem very likely.
Around this time last year, Apple acquired magazine subscription bundle app Texture. According to recent reports, Apple has been working together with leading magazines and newspaper publishers to obtain content for its subscription service. However, a list of publications that Apple will offer as part of its news subscription service is yet to surface online.
The other major highlight of the upcoming special event will be Apple’s new video streaming service. Over the last several quarters, the Cupertino-based company has tied up with some of the biggest names in Hollywood to have a vast array of original content for its video service. Reports suggest the new service will be made available via the Apple TV app. This would mean users will have the option of subscribing to Apple’s original content and/or content from other companies such as HBO. The service will take on rival offerings such as Netflix and Amazon’s Prime Video.
As mentioned earlier, the event is rumored to focus mainly on software and new subscription services. That said, there is still a small chance that Apple may release a few new products such as AirPods 2, AirPower, and the fifth generation iPad. A recent leak had claimed the original AirPods are set to reach the end of their life cycle on March 28. The AirPods 2 are tipped to come with a new coating on the outside for better grip, along with a few other new features.
