Apple Playing With Camera Optics: iPhone 12 May Have Better Auto-Focus & Future Devices May Support Periscope Lenses

The iPhone 12 will definitely make its mark when it comes to market. Apple comes late to the game but always delivers a solid product. This year, from the specs, leaked and ideas shared, we believe things will not be that different. Kuo, an analyst has been making comments and revealing plans for quite some time and these are, more often than not, quite on point. The analyst made quite the remarks on Apple’s upcoming custom silicon Macs as well.

Now, we come to the recent development of the analyst’s report. According to the tweet from 9to5Mac, the analyst has some things to say about the iPhone 12 camera system and Apple’s future plans with the camera module.

Diving deeper into the report and we see that Kuo talks about how Apple has joined up with Semco and Sunny Optical. The two major companies for camera optics. While the company, this year, is opting to go for Semco’s bell based sensor, in the years to follow, Sunny Optical would be making camera sensors for Apple as well.

As for this year’s device, Kuo believes that the company would be adding the sensor which makes autofocus the key “focus” for its device. This is quite a good addition considering Apple focuses on its video capabilities as well. For future devices, the company would opt to go for periscope lenses, similar to ones found in Huawei devices. These do not rely on spring motions and offer better zooming capabilities with the use of in-body mirror systems. While this does sound exciting, this may just be a couple of years away. Not to mention, these are based on predictions which may go in either direction.
