Apple Announces the iPhone SE 2: A13 Bionic Chip, Wireless Charging & More For $399

This just in, Apple quietly announced the iPhone SE 2. The phone was rumored about for quite some time now. The phone was talked about on our platform back in December of last year. Now though, into the second quarter, amidst the coronavirus troubles, we finally see the new device in its glory.

The news was reported by MacRumors first today. According to the article, a YouTuber, Jon Prosser announced it on his channel way back that the device would be announced on the 15th of April and it would come in at $399. By the looks of it, that was a pretty accurate claim.

The iPhone SE 2

Apple announced its latest budget smartphone today, following the footsteps of the first iteration of the iPhone SE. The details of the device are linked to Apple’s page here

For starters, the device looks an awful lot like the rumors and the leaks we saw in the past months. The iPhone SE 2 comes in 3 different colors. Seeing how much people loved the red color from its Product Red range, Apple decided to add that to the lineup. Other than that, we can see the Space Grey and White for the device. On the front, it looks quite similar to the iPhone 7 and 8. We don’t see a notch but instead a novel approach. It would have been nice to see a more immersive display though. As it stands, the device looks dated. We do see a TouchID return though and that is quite welcome if you ask me. On the back, we see a glass body which means that the device supports wireless charging as well. Apple’s website says that it is compatible with Qi Wireless standards, much like its older brothers.

The camera on the back is similar to the ones found in the iPhone 10XR. It supports 4K video at 60fps. Although it is a single sensor, it does support portrait mode as well. On the front, there is a 7MP sensor, much like most iPhone models.

The A13 Bionic chip powers the device and it is safe to say that it can run this device smoothly for years to come. As for the screen, it is a 4.7-inch Retina HD display. Similar to the iPhone XR and 11, it would certainly be more crispy. This is because it is a smaller display, thus a higher pixel density.

Some additional features include a home button that houses the TouchID sensor. There is finally an IP67 rating for the device, which would have been a longshot otherwise. We don’t know much about the battery but considering it was good with the original SE, that may be the case here too. After all, the A13 Bionic chip is great at power management.

Pricing & Availability

The device starts off at $399, as predicted by Jon Prosser. This is for the base model, 64GB iPhone SE 2. It can go up to $549 for the 256GB version. The device isn’t available yet. The pre-orders will begin on the 17th of April.
