Apex Legends Patch Buffs Caustic and Gibraltar With New “Fortified” Passive Perk

Class-based battle royale game Apex Legends has received a significant balancing update. Patch 1.1.1 brings a multitude of changes and additions, including buffs to Caustic and Gibraltar. Both characters now have the “Fortified” passive perk.

As a result of their massive hitboxes, Gibraltar and Caustic are arguably Apex Legends’ weakest characters. Although developer Respawn is working on a remedy, patch 1.1.1 buffs the characters in a different way.

Both characters have had the new Fortified perk added to their passive ability, which reduces all incoming damage by 10%.

“We don’t believe that hit box and character kit tuning is sufficient to bring Gibraltar and Caustic in line with their smaller competitors,” says Respawn“Over the week or two following this change, we will be watching how they perform with this additional protection and aggressively tune it if they are still underpowered relative to their size. Our goal is to ensure both Legends are viable picks by the end of this process.”

Moreover, Gibraltar’s gun shield health has been increased from 50 to 75. Caustic’s ultimate throw distance has been increased, and his gas damage deals 4 damage per tick instead of 1.

Weapon Balance

Furthermore, the patch re-balances a number of weapons. Most notably, the Havoc magazine size has been upped to 32, and its charge beam is much stronger now. The Longbow DMR, G7 Scout, and Triple Take also saw minor tweaks to fire rate, weapon sway, and magazine size.

The Wingman, however, has been hit with yet another nerf. The base magazine size has been reduced to 4, making it harder to effectively spam fire. The Spitfire also saw a nerf to base damage and magazine size.

In response to community feedback, Respawn is changing the attachments of some of the gold weapons. The gold Havoc, which previously featured a select fire, now houses a turbocharger and a 1x-2x variable holo sight. The gold R301 also uses the same sight, and the gold Wingman features a digital threat.

Patch 1.1.1 also increases the speed of the dropship by 50%. “We felt that the ship was moving a bit too slow after watching player behavior so we’re speeding it up so players that like to drop later in the flight path don’t have to wait so long.”

Patch 1.1.1 is live now on all platforms, and Respawn is running a bonus Battle Pass XP event to celebrate. Once per day from April 14th to 16th, players can unlock one full battle pass level by placing 5th or better.
