After the implementation of Android’s August Security Update on the Nokia phones 5, 6, and 7, the Nokia 8 is finally getting the latest security update as well. As of yet, this update is available in India (TA 1004), Netherlands (TA 1012), and Czech Republic for Nokia Android OS devices. The update weighs a total of 83.2 MB, and it downloads and installs in the presence of an actively engaged WiFi connection.
The Android August Security Update was rolled out in two phases: 2018-08-01 and 2018-08-05. The 2018-08-01 release addressed four high severity vulnerabilities in the Android framework, three high to critical vulnerabilities in the media framework, and eight high to critical grade vulnerabilities in the system. The 2018-08-05 release addressed two high severity kernel component bugs, one affecting the F2FS component and the other affecting the binder component, four Qualcomm component high severity vulnerabilities, and twenty-two Qualcomm closed-source component high to critical grade vulnerabilities.
The update version released for the Nokia 8 relays all of the security fixes included in the August 2018 cumulative Android Update as mentioned above. To install this update, your device is likely to prompt you with a message that the update has arrived. If the device does not do this automatically, you can go into the Settings menu and search for system updates
HMD has worked to consistently release security updates for Nokia’s smartphone products. However, there are other factors that may affect how quickly the update is released to your product such as device model, region, location, operator approvals, and Google’s Security Patch Monthly Release announcement. It’s also important to note that when it comes to release dates, those dates only refer to the release time of the first live set of updates in the first market being targeted. Updates tend to roll out in phases and the gap between them could impact when you get your update request.
