AMD Zen architecture has played an important role when it comes to AMD making a comeback and it is a longterm architecture that is going to stay relevant till 2020. AMD has already confirmed that the AMD Zen architecture, as well as the AM4 socket, is here to say and we can see that even the new CPUs work with the older motherboards. We are now getting news that AMD Zen3 Architecture will not only be for server chips but for consumer CPUs as well.
The AMD roadmap shows that by 2020 the AMD Zen3 architecture will be released but keeping mind the longevity of the roadmap, it is more than likely that there will be a Zen5 as well. We also know that the AMD EPYC CPUs that are going to come out are going to skip the AMD Zen+ architecture and will be based on the Zen2 architecture. Other than that we know that the current consumer chips are based on the Zen+ architecture and the 7nm chips that will be coming out next year will be based on the AMD Zen2 architecture.
The AMD Zen3 architecture will follow in 2020. The new CPUs have higher clock speeds and some of them have a higher core count as well. AMD is not offering 32 cores and 64 threads in the Threadripper series and when it comes to mainstream Ryzen, AMD is still offering 8 cores and 16 threads at max but the performance has increased and so have the clock speeds.
The shift from 12nm to 7nm should be an important one and the 7nm+ architecture will introduce further improvement as the process is refined and made even better. The upcoming AMD Zen3 architecture should provide drastic performance improvements as compared to what we have on the market right now.
It will be interesting to see what kind of performance the AMD Zen3 architecture will have to offer but keep in mind that the architecture is going to come in 2020, there is plenty of waiting to do. We will keep you updated regarding the matter so stay tuned for further information and new.
