AMD Ryzen 5000 Series Mobile APUs First Laptop Spotted Running But With ZEN 2 Cores And Older Graphics?

AMD Ryzen 5000 Series of processors will be made for desktop and mobility computing platforms. A new laptop has surfaced online which runs the new AMD Ryzen 7 5700U APU. Although the CPU belongs to the AMD Ryzen 5000 Series, it is not based on the ZEN 3 Architecture.

AMD’s next-generation Ryzen 7 5700U ‘Lucienne’ APU has appeared online in the form of a laptop listing. The Acer Aspire 5 A515 notebook has been listed over at Amazon Italy, and it appears to be powered by an APU that belongs to the new AMD 5000 series of processors. The portable computing device is one of the first products to arrive which is powered by AMD’s Ryzen 5000 APUs. These low TDP processors with embedded AMD graphics will be announced at CES 2021. Incidentally, they will be featuring both ZEN 2 and ZEN 3 powered APUs.

AMD Ryzen 7 5700U ‘Lucienne’ APU Powered Acer’s Aspire A515 Notebook Specifications And Features:

The first known laptop to feature Ryzen 5000U series CPU is the Acer Aspire 5 A515-45-R2J2. The laptop features 15.6-inch Full HD IPS display. The laptop is advertised as a thin and portable laptop with a thickness of 1.79cm. However, at 1.9 kg, the AMD Ryzen 7 5700U APU-powered laptop is certainly not the lightest laptop in this class.

There is 8 GB of DDR4 SODIMM memory which can be expanded up to 24 GB. Storage options include a 512 GB SSD. Connectivity options on the Acer Aspire A515 include one USB 2.0 port, a single USB 3.2 Type-C port, two USB 3.1 Type-A ports, an HDMI port, a single RJ-45 LAN port, an Audio-out jack, and a charging port that powers the 48Wh battery.

AMD Ryzen 5000 Series APUs Will Have Zen 2-Based ‘Lucienne’ And ZEN 3-based ‘Cezanne’ Co-Existing:

Acer Aspire 5 is listed with Ryzen 7 5700U CPU which has a base clock of 1.8 GHz. This is a ZEN 2-based APU but it falls under the ‘Lucienne’ family. This means the processor is not based on ZEN 3 Core Architecture but is essentially a Renoir refresh. This also means the APU carries ZEN 2 Cores. It is important to note that the ZEN 3-based ‘Cezanne’ Series will co-exist with the AMD Ryzen 5000 Series.

The AMD Ryzen 7 5700U packs 8 Cores and 16 Threads. The CPU has a Base Clock of 1.8 GHz, and a Boost Clock of 4.3 GHz. Compared to the Ryzen 7 4700U, the Ryzen 7 5700U offers a 200 MHz increase in Boost Clock and double the number of threads, or SMT enabled. The CPU has an integrated or onboard GPU. The AMD Ryzen 7 5700U’s integrated GPU will offer 8 CUs or a total of 512 cores which will be clocked at 1900 MHz. The Ryzen 7 4700U on the other hand packed 7 compute units or 448 SPs that operate at a clock speed of 1600 MHz. Essentially, with the new CPU, buyers get a compute power upgrade, higher frequency, and more GPU cores.

The laptop was originally listed as a preorder with a price of 779 EUR, but the listing has been updated. The price no longer exists and the preorder option has been removed. It is quite likely that Acer will officially launch the Acer Aspire 5 series with AMD Ryzen 5000 Series APUs early next year.
