Fifty years in a tech world is an achievement many companies try to achieve, but only a few can realize it. AMD is one of the biggest chip makers all over the world; it was created on 1st May 1969, 50 years ago. It was only a Silicon Valley startup and has come a long way since its inception. Like every company, AMD had to endure many hardships and struggle to get to the top end. We can safely say that the company has a brighter future ahead.
On 1st May, the company will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary; they decided to celebrate it with a bunch of surprises for the fans. They have announced limited anniversary editions of their flagship products for the diehard fans and the collectors.
Ryzen 7 2700X
Since the arrival of Zen architecture, AMD has successfully put a significant dent on Intel’s reign with their Ryzen CPUs and APUs. The flagship device of the 2nd gen Ryzen series is getting the 50th anniversary Gold edition. The shiny piece of hardware is sure to become the Apple of the eye of the fans.
Previous leaks suggested that the anniversary edition would have its advantages and slightly a higher price tag. However, AMD decided to stick to the basics and released the same processor with the CEO Dr. Lisa Lu’s laser engraved signatures. The box comes with the usual pack of PC game codes; these include World War Z and Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 Gold Edition. The box also contains the 50th-anniversary merchandise (t-shirt) too.
The current flagship for AMD in the graphics market is its new Radeon VII graphics card. With the announcement of the GPU, AMD boasted a first-ever GPU made on the 7nm process. Though both reviews and consumers did not praise the pricing and performance of the graphics card, AMD is still marketing the card heavily.
AMD is also releasing the 50th-anniversary edition of the Radeon VII for the hardcore fans. The performance and the price of the graphics card will remain the same. However, they have changed the aesthetics. It has a traditional AMD red shroud opposed to typical silver shroud that is currently employed.
Board partners releases
AMD will be celebrating its anniversary with its most loyal board partners, Sapphire and Gigabyte. Both of these companies have announced their respective products for the celebrations.
Sapphire is releasing the Nitro+ RX 590 with Golden shroud on top. The performance of the card is the same as the traditional Nitro+ rendition of RX 590. On the other hand, you may have to pay an extra $15-$20.
Gigabyte is releasing a new motherboard under their Aorus gaming lineup. The new motherboard will be equipped with X470 chipset, for the Ryzen family. In addition to all gaming features of the motherboard, it also supports Wifi 5.0.
Lastly, all of these products are now available at Newegg from today. Newegg is also offering up to $150 on select AMD products on the 1st of May.
