Amazon India has really reached an epitome of development when it comes to an e-commerce market. The company has managed to penetrate the Indian market with various new offers and deals. Some of these features have not been seen before in any other market. Recently, the company allowed users in India to pay their utility bills via Alexa. This is a feature that is a first for Amazon, in any market. The company is willing to expand it to the US market pretty soon.
Similarly, Amazon has added support for purchasing movie tickets online. This is reported in a piece by TechCrunch. Since the Indian Cinema holds a great market share in the country’s economy, it is only natural that such a business would reap amazing results. Currently, there were two main players in the market, BookMyShow and Paytm. Instead of disrupting an existing duopoly, the company decided to partner up with one of the players, in this case, BookMyShow. This created a win-win situation for both companies.
For Amazon, they did not have to spend on resources to penetrate a well-established duopoly and create awareness. They found an established infrastructure to work with. As for BookMyShow, they found a way to target a larger crowd. This is mentioned in the article that the company could now target both tier 2 and tier 3 cities as well, apart from the big metropolitans.
The company aims to take a further lead from its competitor, Paytm. It does so by introducing discounts and deals and tickets. Additionally, users who choose their credit cards to pay for these tickets are guaranteed a 2% discount on their tickets till the 14th of November. Amazon integrates Amazon Pay in this regard as well to get a wider audience for its venture. In this way, Amazon continues to push more money into the Indian market. This is no shock too since the market holds the most potential for capital growth, not to mention, it happens to be home to one of the fastest-growing economies in the world and a diverse demographic to back that.
