Alone in the Dark Remake Revealed With Amnesia Writer Mikael Hedberg on Board

One of the titles announced by THQ Nordic in its new reveal trailer was the new Alone in the Dark Remake. The game has an even creepier feel to it compared to its previous iteration, as the company is taking a new direction with a new writer on board. The writer for the classic horror game Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Mikael Hedberg, is also helping out, so expect an exhilarating horror experience!

Considering the main writer for Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Mikael Hedberg is on board for the project, fans have pretty high expectations for an atmospheric horror experience that literally puts people on the edge of their seats while navigating the Decreto Mansion.

Amnesia has literally solidified itself as a cult classic. The game garnered a wide fanbase, with popular YouTubers like PewDiePie streaming the game on YouTube when the franchise was still in its infancy.

Alone in the Dark Remake, not a Remake?

Even though Alone in the Dark was leaked well before the official announcement, it still surprised many fans with its gameplay, characters and locations being reminiscent of what we’ve seen in new Resident evil games.

While the trailer gave us the feeling that this will be an Alone in the dark remake, the story is taking a new direction with the plot being set in 1920. Players will revisit the Decreto Mansion as well as the surrounding areas from the original Alone in the Dark. The original story and game feature elements from the 90s trilogy.

Paying homage to the original game, the new Alone in the Dark will star two main characters, Emily Hartwood and Edward Carnby. While the game will feature monsters, they’ll be pretty different from the ones we encountered in the original Alone in the Dark. THQ hinted that some of the enemies would feature nods to the ones seen in the original game as well. Otherwise, the enemies are all brand new and dreamt up by the Guillermo del Toro collaborator Guy Davis.

We know now that the new Alone in the Dark won’t be a remake, rather it will feature an original story, and it will still feel nostalgic and pretty at home to veteran fans of the series. So no worries for older fans.

The game is designed to be a modern retelling of the gameplay and the story where players will get to experience a story that is set 30 years after the original Alone in the dark series.

So it is logical that this game is going to be pretty different from what we’ve seen before. The camera angles are going to be different as players get to experience an over-the-shoulder second-person experience with elements and gameplay similar to what we’ve seen and observed in the Resident Evil Remake series.

It seems pretty exciting to see the new Alone in the dark taking pointers from the Resident Evil Remake Series, as the original Alone in the Dark also drew inspiration and borrowed elements from the first Resident Evil game.

Fans should feel pretty comfortable with the new Alone in the Dark as the game draws inspiration from the original Alone in the Dark. Still, it will be pretty interesting to see how the game captures elements from Alone in the Dark 2 and 3 as well as the Resident Evil Remake series.

Alone in the Dark is still in development for the Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC. So, are you excited about the upcoming Alone in the Dark game? Let us know in the comments below. We upload daily on Appuals, so stay tuned for more. Till then, see you later and goodbye!
