New YouTube TV 4K+ Add-On Just for the Price of 2 Game Pass Subscriptions

YouTube TV just introduced a 4K Plus subscription, and as the name suggests, this add-on will enable 4K streaming on a compatible TV. Different from their online video platform, YouTube TV is a Television streaming service offered in the United States for a starting monthly subscription fee of $64 US. The new 4K plus add-on will cost an extra $20 US on top of the base subscription.

With the 4K plus add-on, users will also get a few other perks than just a resolution increase. Dolby 5.1 playback support is coming to YouTube TV with the add-on. Although not every channel/program is going to support 4K streaming and Dolby 5.1, YouTube has confirmed 4K playback on channels like ESPN, NBC, Discovery, and a few others.

You can also use the Live tab to find channels showing 4K programs over the next 10 days. If a channel has an upcoming program airing in 4K, you’ll see it listed here. If not, the channel won’t appear. To see which programs are available for a specific channel, search or browse the network page (for example: NBC Sports 4K).
4K playback is available on select live and on-demand content from these networks:
  • Discovery
  • ESPN
  • FOX Sports
  • FX
  • Nat Geo
  • NBC Sports
  • Tastemade

4K Plus subscribers will also get unlimited streams on Wifi, even on the base plan, plus the ability to save recordings on mobile devices from the YouTube TV library.

Pricing might seem a bit much at $20 US considering the limited availability of the 4K format on broadcast. Thankfully, YouTube is running a 30-day trial where you can get a discounted 1-year subscription for $ 120 US or $10 US/monthly. The add-on is available now, details here.
