Genieo usually comes with ad-supported freeware programs downloaded from the internet and installs itself.
You will need administrator access in order to remove Genieo from your Mac.
1. Quit the Genieo App first by clicking the house icon from the menu bar.
If it is not there then check the Activity Monitor found in Utilities and locate the Genieo app then stop it by selecting it clicking X.
If you cant find the Genieo app then it may not be running, in this case, proceed to 2nd step.
2. Now locate the launchd.conf file from /private/etc folder and trash launchd.conf
If you can’t find this file and have run Genieo Uninstaller then the file is deleted by the Uninstaller, you can proceed to step 3 BUT if you proceed to step 3 without removing launchd.conf and have not run the Uninstaller then your computer may not start-up.
Open Finder -> Click Go -> Go To Folder and type in the following path.
/private/etc and Click Go
Then search for the launchd.conf file and trash it.
After the file has been removed, restart your mac system.
3. Now locate the following files with the help of Finder and move them to trash.
/Applications/Genieo
/Applications/Uninstall Genieo
/Applications/Uninstall IM Completer.app
~/Library/Application Support/com.genieoinnovation.Installer/
~/Library/Application Support/Genieo/
~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.download.plist
~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.update.plist
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.plist
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client.plist
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.engine.plist
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.update.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client.plist
/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client
/usr/lib/libgenkit.dylib
/usr/lib/libgenkitsa.dylib
/usr/lib/libimckit.dylib
/usr/lib/libimckitsa.dylib
Restart your Mac again.
4. Now using Finder locate the following file and move it trash, if the file is present then empty the trash.
/Library/Frameworks/GenieoExtra.framework
5. Removing extensions from your browsers
If you are using Safari, then go to Preferences -> Extensions and uninstall the unwanted extensions.
If you are using Firefox, then go to Tools -> Addons and uninstall the unwanted extensions.
If you are using Chrome, then go to Preferences -> Extensions and uninstall the unwanted extensions
Also, remove the extensions on Microsoft Edge.
