How to Fix error ‘com.google.process.gapps’ has stopped

When the error “Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped” occurs, it typically results in apps crashing or freezing, hindering the overall functionality of your device. This error means that the Google apps process, crucial for many background tasks and services, has crashed unexpectedly.

com.google.process.gapps

The most common cause is corrupted app data or a misbehaving app update, often related to Google Play Services or Google Play Store. Other possible causes include system cache issues or conflicts between apps.

1. Resetting Apps

When apps behave irregularly or data within them gets corrupted, resetting them to their default settings can often clear the issue. This method won’t remove your apps, but it clears up their internal state and permissions, potentially fix any issues causing the error message to display. It’s similar to giving your apps a fresh start, without the struggle of reinstalling them.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Application Manager or Apps.
  3. Choose All (if available) or swipe to view All.
  4. Press the touch button to access the menu/properties, then select either Reset Apps or Reset App Preferences. This will reset the apps without deleting them.

2. Restart Google Framework Services

By restarting the Google Services Framework, you’re essentially giving this crucial component a fresh start. This can help clear out any temporary glitches or data congestion that might be causing the error. It’s a bit like rebooting your computer to resolve a persistent issue – a simple yet often effective solution.

  1. Open Settings and select Apps.
  2. Tap on ‘All Apps’ or swipe to ‘All’, then find and open the Google Services Framework App.
    googleservicesframework
  3. Access App Details, tap on ‘Force Stop‘, then select ‘Clear Cache‘ and test.

3. Reset/Restore your Android Device to Factory Settings

Should the above mentioned methods prove ineffective, consider performing a factory reset on your device. It’s recommended to initiate a soft reset and, should that fail, proceed with a hard reset. For instructions on how to reset, refer to the Android factory reset guide.

None of the methods above have worked for me, unfortunately. Method 2: my Download Manager doesn’t have an Apps Details to open. I have a Force Stop and have tried repeatedly. There is only Force Stop and Cancel, no Disable option.
Tried Method 3 repeatedly with no success. Method 1: I see no touch button to open menu/properties which would allow me to Reset apps.
To add to the frustration the google error pops up about every 2 seconds, making any attempt at correcting extremely slow. Any suggestions would be so appreciated!

I put in my password to unlock my phone and immediately the error message pops up (“Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped.”), i tap ‘ok’ to close the error message but instantly the error message pops up again, and this happens over and over again regardless of the amount of times I tap ‘ok’ on the error message. Whether i open any app the error message pops up the same way. I’ve tried all the steps above in order with no results. Do you think that doing a factory reset will solve the problem?

I went to settings, then backup and restore. Factory data reset is disabled by server policy. I would like to take this device back to factory settings, but I don’t know how.

      K. Arrows Author Aug 26, 2015

When the phone is turned off, press and hold the Home Key + Volume Down Key +Power/Lock Key . When the screen shows the LG logo, release thePower/Lock Key .

When the screen displays an Android robot animation, release the other keys.

Leave your phone for at least a minute while it performs the hard reset, then your phone will reboot.

      Please do a factory reset:

Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then press and hold the POWER button.

Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the POWER and VOLUME DOWN buttons.

I have yet to try this. I have a samsung galaxy core and tried 3 methods to master reset my phone to fix this problem, but none worked. Tried the master reset option via settings (‘delete all’ button not working), the master reset code you input in the dialer, and finally, the power+volume up+home key combination.

Press and hold the power button + volume up key for a couple of seconds.
The device will vibrate once, you can release the power button, but maintain the volume key down for 10 more seconds.
The phone will vibrate and then shutdown, indicating that the hard reset procedure is completed.
      Simply turn on your phone.

I’m on an ASUS me302c. None of this worked. Already reset to factory defaults. Didn’t work either. One question: I recently dropped my tablet over the table, no visual damage and everthing else except this works fine, too. About that time the problem started to occur. So is it possible that this is due to kind of internal damage? Anyone pls answer thank you in advance.

Ps: btw the error “google play services has stopped working” and “google play newstand has stopped working” (when using it) occurs just as much and other apps crash sometimes but not as much

Hi, i have this issue with the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped and I can’t manage to do anything on my phone and what can I do

    Christine M Jan 15, 2019

I’ve tried the simple suggestions, resetting apps, disabling enabling various apps etc but anything more complicated is impossible because the error message is permanently displayed and I have to click to remove for every action, swipe screen, select item etc.

You will have to follow the steps to do that if you can’t a hard reset might help.

I have a BLU Studio G Android phone, which has encountered this error after factory reset which I had to resort to because it was stuck on an infinite loop of trying to update apps after launching it. I have not used the device for a year. Do you have any solutions?
